In a previous article about affiliate marketing we talked about the difference between One-Time and Residual Affiliate Programs on Residual Affiliate Marketing Programs Are Often Best. In today’s article, we will reveal an internet marketer’s best kept secret to earning online, the Direct Mailing List.

So you might have heard this before especially for those who have had some exposure in internet marketing and affiliate marketing. If you ask me it sounds rather cliche but in reality it is all true, the money is in the list!

If I were to start over completely from scratch, and I could only use one tool that I already use today, it would be my mailing list.

What is a Mailing List?
It is a list of people that you are able to directly send advertising messages to, who have given you explicit permission allowing you to do so. On the internet, mailing lists are a very powerful tool to use in closing a sale. Statistics show that more money is made from back-end sales or mailing list sales than entry level or first purchases, plus most people warm up to your product or service after several emails that give them more information about the product that helps them decide on the purchase.

How To Build Your Mailing List?
Building a direct mailing list is a lot easier than you think. But before anything else, don’t buy subscribers from list building companies since these will not be qualified leads. The best way is to build your mailing list with squeeze pages; this is a web page or website that is created specifically for one thing, to get your visitors contact details for the purpose of direct mailing. Typically you give something away like an e-book or a free report that is of interest to the visitor, or get them to try a service for free in exchange for their email address. You would need to drive traffic to these pages though.

When visitors arrive at a squeeze page, they are presented with a very short page that tells them how the free report or e-book will benefit them – using just two or three paragraphs. You don’t want the visitor to have to scroll down or spend too long a time reading. They are in a hurry. Sum it up in two or three paragraphs at the most, and then provide them with an opt-in form to receive the information.

This opt-in form should be attached to your autoresponder, which should send them an email telling them where to receive their free e-book or download, and then adding that name and email address to your opt-in list for future use.

If you do not have a list yet, you can start by contacting those who do until you can get one built. Explore doing joint ventures with list owner’s, offering them a percentage of your commissions. Always ensure that those list owner’s subscribers are going through your squeeze page, so you can build your own list.

Do’s and Don’ts For Your Mailing List
First and foremost, respect your list. Never rent, sell, or share their information with others. Never send them spam, and make sure that the content you are sending is actual content, and not just sales letters. Also, back up your list often! If you are using an autoresponder, you should have the ability to export the list to your computer. Do this on a regular basis, then back the list up onto a disk. Put that disk in a fire proof safe in your home, or store it in a safety deposit box at a bank!

At the end of the day if you are in constant touch with your list with meaningful and relevant messages, you achieve two important things… you establish your credibility in the niche you are in; and you strengthen your relationship with your list. By achieving both, sales through the list will come fast and easy.
