In the last article we talked about how blogging is one of today’s most effective affiliate marketing tools at Blogging: Today’s Hot Affiliate Marketing Tool.
Today we will talk more about blogs, in particular how you can get visitors to your blog. Without traffic, you do not get any readers; with no readers you don’t get any leads; without leads you would hardly make any sales.
Just as a website won’t do you any good with visitors, a blog won’t do you any good without readers. However, getting blog readers is actually easier than getting website visitors and there are many ways to do this.
Blogging Tip 1
First, make sure that each time you make a blog entry, you ping the blog. You can do this by going to Ping-O-Matic at pingomatic.com. There are other blog software however that automatically pings right after you publish a post, like WordPress.
Blogging Tip 2
Make sure that your blog has RSS capabilities. RSS stands for really simple syndication, a feature that will allow readers to load your blog in their newsreader and read your posts without having to directly visit your site. It will also allow them to syndicate what you write on their own websites, which gives you more exposure.
Blogging Tip 3
Read and contribute to other blogs! This is vital if you want to succeed with blogging. Blogging itself is a community of bloggers– regardless of topic. For instance, if you have a blog about cats, you should visit other people’s cat blogs. Read the posts, and when you can, add a comment that is relevant to the post, and link to one of your blog posts that is also relevant. Most blog software allows you to easily leave comments, by providing a form at the end of the post that you can fill up. Ensure that you are leaving truly significant comments and not simply blog spamming!
You can also quote other people’s blogs and provide Trackback links in your own blog posts. Trackbacks are notifications to a blog owner that someone else had quoted content on his site, and those Trackbacks will appear on the other person’s blog being quoted, leading back to the quoter’s blog.
Blogging Tip 4
List your blog on blog directories. There are many blog directories that provide their visitors with listings of blogs grouped according to categories.
Blogging Tip 5
List your blog in the search engines! You should only need to do this once, as spiders will then crawl your blog regularly and will find and index your blog entries. Even though you will be pinging the blog directories, you should also visit the directories initially to get your blog listed there as well.
Blogging Tip 6
Look for other sites or blogs that you can do a link exchange with. While it is typical for a blog owner to find other blogs with related themes to ensure targeted traffic, getting links from other sites of varying topics are also helpful. At the end of the day, the more links on other sites or blogs that point to your site the more opportunities for visitors you get through what is called site referral traffic.
Blogging Tip 7
Register with forums and newsgroups that have topics that are related to your blog theme or topic. Whenever you make a post, make sure that a link to your blog appears in your signature. Just remember, it is easier to promote a website than it is to promote a product, and it is easier to promote a blog than it is to promote a website. For this reason, make blogging a priority, and you will be astounded at the results.
