I sent out a survey recently and it was something to do with WordPress and blogging. I was trying to find out which topic people were more interested in; SEO for WordPress or a complete WordPress Tutorial. Actually me and a colleague have just finished those two tutorials on video and were scratching our heads wondering which one to release first and if they should be accessible or download online or should it be a physical DVD sent to a customer’s home.
Anyways, I got a lot of really great responses and some good insights. Number 1 rule in marketing regardless if online or in the physical world is, always make decisions based on facts or statistics. But before I go off topic let me go back to my story.
I received one email, wherein someone commented that she had researched on how to get paid or make money from a blog but she found that there is always money involved, like you have to pay something before you can access their sites.
What she may have stumbled upon are membership sites. But anyways, I replied to her email, since she was nice enough to answer the survey I sent out, and sent her this.
There are several free ways to make money through your blog, but almost always the money never comes if you do not have the one most important thing that you need to leverage on to make money, and that is traffic.
For example, if you put up Google AdSense ads on your website (this is free to register to), you could make money when visitors visit your site and click those ads. But then if you do not have any visitors, then who’ll be clicking your ads? None. So you don’t make money. Don’t try clicking your own ads because your account can get banned for click fraud.
Second example, if you were using your blog or a blog to promote products or services you offer, its likely you also will not be getting a lot of potential customers if you don’t have traffic. This is pretty much like a retail store in a specific location that does not advertise its products and where it is located, no one finds them and so no one visits them.
So you see, there are many ways to make money off your blog, and you do not need to spend at all. Generally the ways are :
- Google AdSense
- selling products or services you provide
- promoting other peoples’ products and services and make a commission when a prospect you sent to the product owner’s site made a purchase
- selling advertising space…
The last option is not something you actually go out and do, it simple comes to you… Because there are advertising managers who scour the web looking for good places to advertise, then they make you an offer.
Just today, someone emailed me offering $50 to put a text link in one of my blogs. $50 really is not that much, but the point I want to underscore is, its money I made, without doing any effort, it came to me.
But what do I do to keep getting traffic to my blog? The same things I teach in the quick blogging course that you must have taken.
Again, if people see that you have traffic, then you do not even have to find them, they find you.
That is why my courses in blogging have always been about how to get more traffic because traffic is what makes or breaks your blog.
