Someone called me.. ok let me take that back… a lot of people have called me a Jack Of All Trades because of all the things I get in to… the recent being company search engine optimization. Company what? I’ll tell you more about it later.
Anyways as I was saying, I’m the Jack of this and that… I probably have more hobbies than a cactus has got spikes, or are those spikes or thorns? But that’s just me, I am always on the lookout for opportunities and possibilities.
So, what is Search Engine Optimization?
Wikipedia says, “Search engine optimization (SEO) is the process of improving the volume and quality of traffic to a web site from search engines via “natural” (”organic” or “algorithmic”) search results. Usually, the earlier a site is presented in the search results, or the higher it “ranks”, the more searchers will visit that site. SEO can also target different kinds of search, including image search, local search, and industry-specific vertical search engines.”
What does that exactly mean?
Have you ever had a website? Have you ever had a business which had a website which you relied on for taking orders? Let’s say you are a real estate broker, and you put the properties you are handling on your website. Problem is, no one seems to be visiting your site, so no inquiries, no sales; and you tell yourself “you shouldn’t have blown money off on a website that doesn’t work”. In fact your probably even thinking that the internet does not work. Uselss waste of money, you might conclude.
Well, what happens is whoever built your site didn’t know how to build and optimize your site properly. If your site is well optimized by someone adept in search engine optimization, you would surely be getting traffic, inquiries, leads and sales. Why? Because search engine optimization gets your site listed on search engine results for keywords that are related to your site. More on that in a bit. In the meantime, let’s go back to what Wikipedia.org has to say about search engine optimization.
“As a marketing strategy for increasing a site’s relevance, SEO considers how search algorithms work and what people search for. SEO efforts may involve a site’s coding, presentation, and structure, as well as fixing problems that could prevent search engine indexing programs from fully spidering a site. Other, more noticeable efforts may include adding unique content to a site, ensuring that content is easily indexed by search engine robots, and making the site more appealing to users.”
What that means?
Search engine optimization makes sure your site is properly built, ensuring it is properly indexed by search engines, and more importantly your content recorded. Why is that important?
When someone makes a search on Google for example, and that person searches for real estate broker, that person is your potential customer. When the search results come in and show your site in the number 1 spot, or at least among the top ten results, your chances of getting a visit from that person are higher.
So what do SEO specialists do? They look for keywords that are relevant or related to your business or website, then find out which of these keywords are getting searched in huge volumes and take measures for your site to be among the search results for those keywords. The higher your rank, the higher your chances of getting traffic, the higher your chances of getting customers.
So why did I think of writing this post about search engine optimization?
Well, I do company search engine optimization… which is… I analyze poor performing sites and optimize them to get better search engine rankings and get better traffic. I find it easier, than actually building a new site. Building a site is sort of difficult because I have to worry about the site structure plus write web content that is optimized for the keyword searches which you want your site to be found with.
I was talking to a friend of mine earlier who was planning to put up a website, and so I explained to him how it works. I told him I would do a little research and find out what keywords were ideal for him to optimize for. Well I did just that, found out the right keywords to use, found out who the potential competition is, and so on.
I wanted to teach him how traffic generation and Off page search engine works, so I posted a blog using the keywords I found were good. After which I did a little promotion, using social networking and social bookmarking. Didn’t really spend much time on it, I just wanted to do enough to be able to show him the steps, the process he would need to know when he drives traffic to his site.
I was optimizing for three keywords, and in less than an hour, the site where I made that new post… was found on Google… in less than an hour. I ranked number 1 for keyword number 1, I ranked number 12 for keyword number 2, and ranked 52 for keywords number 3.
Not bad for a simple blog post, but using keywords that I did proper keyword research on, posting it on a properly optimized blog site, and using search engine optimization techniques to get you found and ranked highly on search engines.
Imagine, your website properly optimized, and found on the top ten results for keywords that are of relevance to your site.

But wait, your thinking.. Is search engine optimization affordable? Sometimes I think it is really overrated, as I see some people blowing of hundreds of dollars on SEO.. but what is a few hundred bucks compared to the long term stream of customers from that process?
But actually cebu search engine optimization is not that expensive I believe… if you are looking for people who can do search engine optimization in Cebu other than myself, you can do a search for “search engine optimization cebu” or “seo cebu” on Google.
