There are several ebooks, manuals and tutorials out there that teach different ways of getting traffic, and many of these are of lesser value than the amount you pay to buy them.

For an internet webmaster newbie or a simply blog owner, you may wonder why the importance of traffic.

On the internet, traffic is a webmaster’s most valuable commodity, the very reason why we update our sites, optimize and promote… to get traffic.

From a personal perspective traffic is popularity, the more people coming to your site, the more people you are able to reach. Take for example a personal blog, the more people visit your site, the more people get to read you.

From a business perspective, traffic is synonymous to income; the amount of traffic you get has a bearing on how much sales conversions occur on your site. This of course depends on how you are monetizing that traffic, what monetization model you are using and if your site is properly optimized.

So how did I drive 141 people to my site in one day, without spending any money and for just working on it for one hour? By the way as I write this the day is not over yet, there are like more visitors coming in to my site.

Here is how I did it.

- I posted a new blog on my blog site.
- I submitted this blog to social bookmarking sites like Technoraty, Digg, etc… you know those little icons you see at the end of a blog post, or on some pages of a website.

Social bookmarking is a Web 2.0 feature where users can compile lists of Internet resources, pages and links that they find interesting or useful. These lists are visiable publicly on your profile and so other users who might be of similar interests can view those links and be routed to those pages.

Share and Enjoy: These icons link to social bookmarking sites where readers can share and discover new web pages.
